Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank’s Community Collaboration Workshop

We were honored to be a part of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank’s community collaboration workshop on May 24, 2023. This event was a convening of their community pantries as well as their community partners. Summit Environmental Solutions was privileged to be the title sponsor for this heartwarming celebration of community. 

The overarching theme of the event was based on “The Starfish Story” from a collection of essays by Loren Eiseley:

The main takeaway from the story is that each act of service, though small in itself, is impactful for the one served. This sentiment especially touched us because everyone here at Summit is a starfish thrower. We celebrate the small wins just as much as the big wins. Compassion is the policy, and excellence is the culture. 

Dan Maher, President and CEO of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, couldn’t have been more spot on when he said, “…this truly is a celebration of the network; we are a team as a network,” in his opening remarks. The communal sentiment that we are all crucial nodes in the greater food bank network was also emphasized and celebrated throughout the event. 

Summit Pest Control’s role in this network is to educate patrons of the food bank on proper food storage and other techniques that mitigate the potential of a pest infestation. We recognize the importance of ecological balance and play our part in protecting households from the health risks of pests while also supporting the environment's health. Our certified Pest Control technician, Hope Adcock, presented on the importance of pest control in relation to food security. Watch the full presentation below:
